The short version
- Do you store what I type into a calculator? No. Your sizes are worked out in your browser and never sent to us.
- Do I need an account? No. We never ask for your name, phone number or email to use a calculator.
- What about my project list? It's saved in your own browser, not on our servers.
- Do you use cookies? Our analytics don't. The calculators work with cookies switched off.
- Do you sell my data? No.
Who is responsible for your data
PencilSum (pencilsum.com) is run by Junayd, an individual based in the UK, who is the "controller" of your personal data on this site. Contact: [email protected] (put "Privacy" in the subject line).
What we collect, why, and for how long
| What | What happens | Why (legal basis) | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| The sizes you type | Worked out in your browser. Never sent to us. | – | Not kept by us |
| Your project list | Saved in your browser's local storage on your device. We don't receive it. | Strictly necessary to give you the list you asked for | Until you clear it ("Clear list", or clear this site's data in your browser) |
| Share links | A shared list or result travels in the link itself, mostly in the part after the "#", which browsers don't send to our server. Anyone you send the link to can see what it contains. | – | Not kept by us |
| Visit statistics | We use Cloudflare Web Analytics. Cloudflare says it "does not use any client-side state, such as cookies or localStorage, to collect usage metrics" and does not "fingerprint" individuals. We see totals such as page views, countries and which pages people come from, never who you are. | Legitimate interests: knowing which calculators are used so we can improve them | Totals only, under Cloudflare's policy |
| Hosting and security | Cloudflare hosts the site. Like any web host, it processes technical data such as your IP address to deliver pages and protect the site from attacks. | Legitimate interests: running a secure website | Under Cloudflare's policy, only as long as it needs for security |
| Emails you send us | We keep your email address and message to reply. | Legitimate interests: answering you | Deleted within 12 months of our last reply |
You don't have to give us any personal data to use PencilSum. We don't make automated decisions about you.
