How much does a concrete slab cost?
A professionally installed concrete slab or patio costs about $4 to $8 per square foot in the US. A 10 by 10 foot patio 4 inches thick comes to about $400 to $800. The concrete alone costs about $100 to $500 delivered as ready-mix, before tools, base and labor.
How we worked it out
10 ft × 10 ft = 100 ft²
100 ft² × (4 in ÷ 12) = 33.3 ft³
33.3 ft³ + 10% extra = 36.7 ft³ ÷ 27 = 1.36 yd³
A pro: 100 ft² × $4-$8 per ft² (patio or slab) = $400-$800
Ready-mix: 1.36 yd³ × $110-$195 per yd³ + short-load fee $20-$165 (ask your supplier) = $100-$500
Bags: 36.7 ft³ ÷ 0.6 ft³ per 80 lb bag = 62 bags (rounded up)
DIY: 62 bags × $6.47 = $401

What does a pro's price include?
A contractor's price for a concrete slab usually covers labor and materials, but what is bundled varies by contractor. Removing old concrete adds about $2 to $6 per square foot, and mesh or rebar about $1 to $3. Ask whether your quote already includes them before you compare.
Why does ready-mix cost more in some places?
Ready-mix prices depend on where you live. ENR's survey put New York at $279 a cubic yard delivered and Dallas at $111, against a 20-city average of $194. Orders under about 10 cubic yards usually add a short-load fee.
Short-load fees vary by supplier: a flat $50 to $165 a load, or $15 to $43 a cubic yard. Ask your supplier for theirs.
